


Dr.
Richard H. Shultz, Jr.
Director of Research
Dr. Richard Shultz is the Research Director of the Consortium
for the Study of Intelligence. He is also Professor and
Director of The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy’s
International Security Studies Program (ISSP) at Tufts
University.
In
addition, Dr. Shultz recently served as a senior consultant
to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for
Special Operations focusing on counterterrorist responses.
Over the last twenty years he has also served as a consultant
to various government agencies concerned with national
security, including the National Security Council, the
U.S. Special Operations Command, the Chief of Staff of
the Army, the Commandant of the Marine Corps, the U.S.
Army’s Special Warfare Center, and the Department
of Defense’s Special Operations Policy Advisory
Group.
At
Fletcher, Dr. Shultz teaches at the graduate level and
his course offerings include: Seminar on Intelligence,
Terrorism and National Security; The Role of Force in
International Relations; and Crisis Management and Complex
Emergencies.
He
has been the beneficiary of three chairs including Olin
Distinguished Professorship of National Security Studies
at the U.S. Military Academy, Secretary of the Navy Senior
Research Fellow at the U.S. Naval War College, and Brigadier
General H.L. Oppenheimer Chair of Warfighting Strategy,
U.S. Marine Corps University.
Dr.
Shultz has authored, co-authored, and edited numerous
books, articles, monographs and reports. His recent book
The Secret War Against Hanoi (2000) was the subject
of news stories, columns, and reviews in several publications
including The New York Times, The Washington
Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Los
Angeles Times, The Economist, and Foreign
Affairs. His other publications include In the
Aftermath of War: U.S. Support for Reconstruction and
Nation-Building in Panama Following Just Cause, 1993;
and Ethnic and Religious Conflict: Emerging Threat
to U.S. Security, 1995.
